BREATH Success: First of the PhD students successfully defends thesis at viva

DKIT | General News | Research

DkIT PhD student Ruth Matthews undertook her viva voce examination on October 15th, defending a doctoral thesis entitled: Characterisation of a fast Na+ current in murine airway smooth muscle.  Her Examination Panel included Professor Sean Ward from the University of Nevada, an expert in smooth muscle physiology, and Professor John O’Connor from University College Dublin (UCD), an expert in the field of neuroscience.

The two and a half viva involved an in depth interrogation of her doctoral research thesis – and was viewed by both Examiners and student alike as a very constructive experience, discussing science with experts interested in the science presented.

Congratulations Dr Ruth Matthews – the first BREATH student to successfully complete!  And well done to the supervisory team, led by Professor Keith Thornbury.
